Again, people face many kinds of problems from which they do not know the way out. For example, soul-related or paranormal or supernatural problems – ghosts.

The Garuda Purana says that after death a soul goes to heaven or hell according to its deeds. However, there are some souls that wander between this world and the next. These restless souls are called evil spirits or ghosts. These spirits, finding no place to rest, try to enter the bodies of living people. Also, if murders or suicides have occurred in an old house, ghosts or restless spirits may remain. Sometimes when someone dies in an accident under a tree by the road, or is murdered there, or when a dead body is buried in a place, the spirit fills that location. According to the Garuda Purana, certain people by their deeds attract evil spirits toward them.

In such cases various disturbances and problems occur in the house. These can be physical or mental illnesses of the household members. When a spirit is sent against someone, the affected person dreams about the spirit, which mentally destabilizes them. As a result they suffer physical and psychological harm.

When a spirit enters the body of a very young person, they may develop unexplained high fever and become bedridden and weak. A dark spot may appear on the face. The fever can last for some time. Then the spirit settles into the child’s (or adolescent’s) body and seeks to take control. In girls, sexual assault by the spirit is a common occurrence. In the end the afflicted person may be killed. This is also sometimes seen in adults.

There have been several cases where a spirit entered a body and killed the afflicted person.

There can be hauntings or shadow disturbances in the house. Household members may suddenly see a ghostly figure. When they follow it, nothing can be found.

A spirit may be sent (to target) someone. In that case the spirit or disembodied entity enters that person’s body. Then the person behaves oddly. Inhuman strength may come upon them. They cannot control their body or mind.

Lights may suddenly turn on, even though the switch was off.

Or faucets may turn on and water flow, a doorbell may ring, strange smells may be noticed, scratch marks like nail-gouges on the body. Various colors may appear in the house.

In some room or on the roof there may be many kinds of sounds – sounds like scuffling, the crash as if glass or dishes have fallen and broken on the floor, the sound of doors opening or closing, footsteps, laughter – many such noises are heard. Yet when one reaches the place from which the sound seemed to come, nothing of that sort is found.

After opening a locked room, you may find items or furniture have been moved from their places.

If there are pets in the house, such as dogs or cats, they may suddenly begin to behave abnormally. Dogs or cats may bark or cry late at night or at noon for no reason.

A pet dog, cat, or myna bird may be found killed in an enclosed space during the night.

In some room or place in the house a sudden intense cold may be felt. When people enter, they may feel heaviness in the body or a cold draft down the neck – symptoms like that.

When a spirit lodges in someone’s body, various symptoms appear. For example, the person will prefer to be alone. They may go into a dark room and close the door. They may consume excrement or urine. They may talk to themselves. Scratch marks will appear on the body. They may try to harm themselves, and so on. They may feel emotional and cry often. Misbehaving with others, remains restless, start quarrel without any intention or issues. Willing to be separated.

The sudden drying or burning of household plants is also considered a significant symptom.

There may be sudden storms in a place, although no storm is visible nearby.

All these are signs of the presence of restless souls. They have particular effects on household members – physical problems, unrest, financial difficulties, and mental issues are chief among them. Bad luck, confusion, and being unable to find a way forward. Nocturnal calling.

One cause of supernatural disturbance in a house can be Vastu defects (flaws in the house’s traditional spatial-energy alignment). Also, if household members have planetary afflictions, hauntings may occur. Likewise, if a house is the scene of a suicide or a murder, spirit disturbances happen there. Spirits can also be sent to a house or to a person by invoking them.
